„Terra Incognita” is my first „only” semi-animal sculpture. It is not simply a hybrid creature. It is not a half-horse, half-human creation, but a continuous transition from one to the other. On the equine underbelly, a man's chest is protruding, but the man's head is again that of the horse, while the human head serves as a kind of support under the hoofed foot. ‘Unknown Earth’, like the unknowability that binds us humans to the animals. As if they were us, and as if we sometimes understood them better than ourselves or our fellow human beings.
Complex, malleable, a figure mixed with human and animal instincts, it suggests the dual nature that exists in humans. It involves visceral instincts, subconscious reactions, but also, like the mythological figure of Kheiron, wisdom. The horse's face is also a reference to the 2 years when isolation, division and mindlessness were present in the world, but also playfully expresses that in fact the turning inwards (the mask) brought an important period of individual consciousness, intellect and spiritual development, triggering in many of us a paradigm shift in worldview.
